The comments, made during a Polygon interview, offer fans their clearest hint yet about how closely the new series will be tied to the beloved 1990s original, though Carter admitted he has not yet seen the reboot himself.

Carter said he believed Anderson would definitely appear, with Duchovny "assuming" to follow, reprising their roles as Agents Scully and Mulder alongside new leads Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel. He was speaking ahead of the release of a director's cut of the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe, arriving on Disney Plus and Hulu on 14 August. Carter also revealed he has "big plans" of his own for further instalments, whether a series or film, and said he would only know if his ideas complement or compete with Coogler's version once he sees it.
