X-Men ’97 voice actor weighs in on Marvel’s spiciest love triangle: ‘I’ll ship that’

Zehra Fazal, who voices Emma Frost in the second season of the Disney Plus animated series X-Men '97, has spoken about the character and the possibility of adapting one of Marvel's most controversial romantic storylines. In an interview, Fazal described Frost as unfailingly self-assured and driven by her own agenda, while noting the "true warm heart" beneath her diamond exterior, particularly towards the younger X-Men. The comments matter chiefly to fans wondering whether the show will eventually tackle the comics' famous Emma–Scott–Jean love triangle, which has never featured in any onscreen X-Men adaptation.

Emma Frost first appeared in the 1990s as the villainous White Queen of the Hellfire Club, voiced by Tracey Moore, before evolving over the decades into a morally grey figure who has even led the X-Men. In X-Men '97 she survived the Genosha genocide in season one by unlocking her ability to turn to pure diamond, and briefly betrayed Cable's X-Force team in season two. In the comics, Frost and Scott Summers (Cyclops) began a telepathic affair before officially becoming a couple after Jean Grey's death in 2004, remaining together until 2016. Asked whether this could play out on screen, Fazal said the pair "look great together" and "I'll ship that", while teasing that more is in store for the character in season two and beyond.
