X Money begins limited US rollout

Engadget · 4 hours ago

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has begun a limited US rollout of X Money, a financial services product previously trialled through an invite-only beta. The service is currently restricted to Premium and Premium+ subscribers aged 18 and over, marking another step in owner Elon Musk's push to turn X into an "everything app" that combines social networking with payments and banking.

X Money provides a deposit account, peer-to-peer payments and a debit card accessible within the app, with integrations for Visa and Apple Wallet. The card is available digitally or as a customisable physical metal version bearing the user's X handle, and the service advertises perks including up to 6.00% APY, 3% cashback, no foreign transaction fees and early direct deposit, though rates depend on subscription tier and deposit habits. X Payments LLC itself is not FDIC-insured, but customer funds are held at Cross River Bank, an FDIC member, meaning deposits are insured.
