X Money is launching in the US starting today

The Verge · 4 hours ago

X Money, Elon Musk's payment platform for X (formerly Twitter), has begun rolling out in the US, first to X Premium and Premium Plus subscribers. It marks a significant step in Musk's long-stated goal of turning X into an "everything app" that handles money as well as social media, a vision he has pursued since at least 2023. The launch has previously drawn scrutiny from lawmakers concerned about the risks of a social media firm operating in financial services.

The service functions as a digital wallet with peer-to-peer payments similar to Venmo, alongside a metal Visa card that can display the user's X username, Apple Wallet support and free money transfers on the platform. It advertises up to a 6% APY, though only Premium Plus subscribers automatically qualify, while standard Premium subscribers must deposit a set amount to access the boosted rate. The rollout follows an earlier invite-only beta and comes months after Musk announced "early public access" in April, with Senator Elizabeth Warren having warned that the platform could pose risks to consumers, national security and financial stability.
