X is releasing substantially more of the code behind its ‘For You’ feed and ranking engine, alongside a tool intended to show users whether their accounts or posts have been affected by ranking labels. The move is designed to increase transparency around a system that influences what users see on a politically significant platform, amid longstanding concerns about misinformation, elections and perceived ‘shadowbanning’.

The GitHub release, licensed under Apache v2, includes feed assembly, ranking parameters, filters and model configuration, making the codebase roughly 10 to 15 times larger than before. Users who posted at least 10 times in the previous month will be able to download monthly JSON statistics from a new ‘Under the Hood’ settings page; the feature begins with a pilot for selected accounts at least a year old. Some systems, including Grok-based rule-violation prediction tools, remain private to reduce the risk of spam or evasion.
