X says its updated web app is way faster
X is rolling out an updated web app that it says loads much faster, with access for signed-in users expanding one country at a time. The change matters because X says it has cut the wait for a profile’s first post on a slow connection from more than 22 seconds to 2.7 seconds.
The redesign combines three servers previously used for people, search crawlers and link previews into one. Security researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who said she had access, described the app as quick and polished. The new version is already available to logged-out visitors and on pages crawled by search engines.
In short
- X says profiles now load in 2.7 seconds on a slow connection.
- The updated app is rolling out to signed-in users by country.
- X has combined three servers into one.
Explained simply
X, formerly known as Twitter, is a social media service where people post messages, follow accounts and view updates on the web or in its apps. Its website has to work across different devices and connection speeds, including slower internet connections.
Web pages often rely on servers to deliver content to visitors and to provide information to search engines or link previews. X says the updated app brings together systems it previously used for those different purposes, and that this has reduced the time users may wait to see a profile’s first post.
