Xbox CEO calls Project Helix a ‘family of devices’

The Verge · 4 hours ago

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has said that Project Helix, Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox project, will be a “family of devices” rather than a single console. The wording suggests Microsoft may be planning several hardware options, potentially broadening the Xbox platform beyond a traditional standalone console.

Sharma did not confirm whether Helix will be disc-free, although Microsoft has announced a scheme to digitise physical games. Microsoft and AMD previously said they would work on a portfolio of devices, while reports have suggested third parties could also sell Helix hardware; an Xbox executive has described Helix as available as a first-party Xbox console. No launch date has been announced, but AMD has indicated support for a possible 2027 release and Helix is not expected to reach alpha until that year.

  • Project Helix is planned as multiple Xbox devices.
  • Microsoft has not confirmed a disc-free model.
  • Current indications point to development continuing into 2027.
