Xbox CEO says the team has one year to start growing again
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has told staff the business has one year to return to player and revenue growth, following a major restructuring involving thousands of redundancies and the spin-off of four studios. The target, set for the end of fiscal year 2027 in June next year, is paired with a plan to restore profits to industry-average levels and make every team responsible for the outcome.
Sharma’s strategy centres on strengthening Xbox’s console-led platform, expanding games into global franchises, turning Minecraft into a creator platform, and extending fan communities across more products and services. Xbox says it reaches more than 100 million people daily, over 500 million monthly and nearly one billion annually; it aims for sustained double-digit player and engagement growth by 2030, while focusing studios on major franchises, casual games through King, and greater investment in Minecraft.
- Xbox has set a deadline of June 2027 to resume growth.
- The plan follows layoffs and a broad restructuring.
