Xreal’s $299 lightweight a01+ AR glasses are now available to buy

Engadget · 2 hours ago

Xreal has begun selling the a01+, the debut product from its new budget-focused sub-brand X by Xreal, priced at $299. The glasses are aimed at a mainstream audience — such as commuters and frequent flyers — who want a portable "pocket cinema" for gaming and watching films. A key selling point is their light weight of just 62 grams, achieved partly by leaving out a built-in camera, keeping the focus squarely on media consumption.

The a01+ features dual-layer 120Hz Micro-OLED displays that support HDR10, reach up to 1,600 nits of brightness and can upscale SDR content, alongside a proprietary spatial stabilisation algorithm to keep the picture steady. Xreal says the virtual display is equivalent to a 147-inch screen viewed at 4 metres, with a 50-degree field of view and three colour profiles (Cinema, Eye Care and Standard). Built-in 9x20mm drivers offer four sound modes — 3D Surround, Cinema, Whisper and Standard — while interchangeable front frames, including 3D-printable accessories, allow for personal customisation.
