The American League Division Series is a playoff round in baseball where top teams compete to advance in the post-season. The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays have begun their best-of-five matchup, with the Rays winning the opening game 1-0, putting the Yankees behind early in the series.

The Yankees had recently swept the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card round, scoring 18 runs across two games. However, they are without Aaron Judge, one of their star players who is recovering from a calf injury, which may have affected their performance in this close contest.

Tampa Bay's pitcher Drew Rasmussen was highly effective, allowing just one hit and two walks over eight innings whilst striking out ten batters. The game's only run came from a home run by Jonathan Aranda off Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole, giving Tampa Bay an important opening victory.
