Sophie Thatcher, who rose to fame playing a younger version of Juliette Lewis's character on Showtime's "Yellowjackets," has spent recent years deliberately choosing unconventional, offbeat projects rather than following a typical rising-star trajectory. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter from the upstate New York farmhouse she impulsively bought and now shares with her twin sister and their partners, the 25-year-old actress discussed wrapping the final season of "Yellowjackets" and building a career defined by strangeness rather than mainstream appeal.

Her latest film, Nicolas Winding Refn's arthouse thriller "Her Private Hell," sees her play a troubled starlet in a fog-shrouded dystopian city stalked by a killer known as the Leatherman; the divisive film earned her a 12-minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere in May. It follows other unusual choices including "Heretic" (2024), opposite Hugh Grant, and "Companion" (2025), in which she played a murderous robot. Thatcher describes her three months filming in Copenhagen as the most artistically satisfying experience of her career, and says she wants to represent "outsiders" on screen rather than pursue conventional stardom.
