New details have emerged about Netflix's "Parasyte: Tamiya," confirming that directors Kakimoto Kensaku and Nakagawa Kazuhiro will helm the live-action series, with Yeon Sang-ho co-writing the script alongside Ryu Yong-jae. The update also reveals the commercial pedigree behind the project: predecessor "Parasyte: The Grey" spent four weeks on Netflix's Global Top 10 Non-English TV list and topped the chart in 34 countries after its 2024 release, underlining why Netflix is keen to expand the franchise with Shioli Kutsuna in the lead for 2027.

Kutsuna plays Ryoko Tamiya across three states — the original human host, the parasite once it takes control, and the creature as it grapples with coexisting with humanity — a role Yeon and Kutsuna both describe as the emotional core of the story. Yeon said he deliberately paired two directors with contrasting styles, Kakimoto known for "Glass Heart" and Nakagawa for "Double" and "Bullet Train Explosion," to bring fresh dynamics to the material. Netflix Japan's live-action manager, Sato Yoshihiro, framed the series' themes of identity and coexistence with non-human beings as newly relevant given the rise of AI, while Wowpoint, Yeon's regular production partner, continues producing.
