York appoint Lindsey after shock Maynard sacking
York City has replaced manager Stuart Maynard with Scott Lindsey just one day after dismissing him, despite Maynard's successful championship campaign that restored the club to the EFL after a decade away. The board attributed the split to differing visions for the club's future, marking the second managerial upheaval at the Minstermen in two years.
Lindsey, aged 54, assumes his new role with experience managing Crawley, Swindon, and MK Dons across the EFL divisions. However, his recent record is uneven—whilst he secured Crawley's promotion to League One in 2024, his second spell with the club ended in March following a poor run that nearly cost them their League Two status. York begin their new League Two campaign against Bristol Rovers on 15 August, with Lindsey's first fixture coming against former side Crawley in the EFL Cup.
