You can generate and edit Google Docs files directly in Gemini chats now

Google has added tools to Gemini that let users create, preview and edit several kinds of files directly in chats. The change means users can revise documents and other files without switching to another app, building on Gemini’s earlier ability to generate and download files.

The feature is available to all Gemini users from 29 October 2026, according to the article. PDF previews and editing work on web and mobile, while Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, text and code files are supported on the web only. Users can edit in full-screen mode or select text and ask Gemini to make changes, such as turning a highlighted table into a graph; Claude has also introduced document and presentation editing in chats.
