Digital Extremes is once again opening up its fantasy multiplayer RPG Soulframe to new players as part of its annual TennoCon celebration. Anyone who signs up on the Soulframe website is guaranteed access to the current Soulframe: Preludes build, a closed pre-alpha version in which players help playtest the game. This matters because the studio only admits new testers occasionally, so the event represents one of the limited windows to try the title before any full release.

To secure access, players must register on the game's website before 11:59 PM ET on 12 July. Those admitted can try recently revealed content such as a new boss, the Mendicant Reinbreaker, and a sword-whip weapon, and will also receive future updates, including mounts arriving this autumn. Lead designer Scott McGregor described the influx as "exciting and always terrifying", citing worries about servers and bugs, while senior community manager Sarah Asselin highlighted the value of fresh feedback on the new-player experience. Soulframe: Preludes is currently PC-only, and Digital Extremes has not committed to a 1.0 release window.
