You can soon stream Crunchyroll on your car’s infotainment system

Engadget · 2 hours ago

Crunchyroll is set to become available on car infotainment systems through Appning, a connected-car app store used by more than 40 vehicle brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Group, Mini, Lotus and SAIC Motor. This gives drivers and passengers another way to watch anime on the move, reflecting the broader trend of streaming apps becoming standard features in modern vehicles.

The service is already accessible in BMW cars and is expected to roll out to more vehicles over time, though it will not appear on the Afeela 1, the car developed by Crunchyroll's parent company Sony with Honda, since that project was cancelled a few months ago. Crunchyroll announced the move on LinkedIn, stating the app will be available across regions including Asia, Australia, Europe, India, Latin America and North America. As a safety precaution, video streaming on infotainment systems typically only functions while the car is stationary.

  • Crunchyroll is coming to car infotainment systems via the Appning app store.
  • Available in BMW now, more brands to follow later.
  • Streaming will likely only work while the car is parked.
