Casio launches keyboard that adapts learners’ notes to a song’s harmony
Casio has launched the Casiotone CT-FS1, a portable keyboard designed to let learners play along with songs without producing notes outside the song’s harmony. Its Feel Sync feature may help beginners practise rhythm and creative expression with less worry about mistakes.
The $399.99 keyboard has 61 touch-responsive keys, built-in stereo speakers, Bluetooth and a headphone jack, and runs on AA batteries or a power adapter. Feel Sync works through a companion app for iOS and Android: users import a song, and the keyboard adjusts the notes they play to fit its harmony, while they remain responsible for timing. The keyboard can also be split into two zones, allowing one player to use Feel Sync while another plays normally.
In short
- Feel Sync keeps played notes within a song’s harmony.
- The CT-FS1 costs $399.99 and has 61 keys.
- Players still need to keep time with the music.
Explained simply
Casio is a Japanese electronics company that makes musical instruments as well as watches and calculators. Its Casiotone keyboards are portable electronic instruments, often used by people learning to play or making music at home.
Songs are built from notes that usually work together in a pattern called harmony. Beginners may find it difficult to choose notes that fit, even when they can keep time with a song.
A keyboard that changes played notes to fit a song could make it easier for learners to experiment while playing along. The player still controls when the notes are played, so rhythm remains part of the practice.
