You don’t need a headset to play Stardew Valley’s incredible new VR mod

Polygon · 3 hours ago

A modder known as GingasVR has created a virtual reality mod for Stardew Valley that transforms the cosy 2D farming sim into a fully three-dimensional experience, and it can also be played without a VR headset. The mod overlays the game with procedurally generated 3D voxel effects based on its original sprites, letting players switch between traditional and immersive perspectives, which speeds up repetitive tasks while adding more dynamic action to activities such as combat and mining.

The mod remains a work in progress, and the developer warns that some areas of the game may load oddly since Stardew Valley was never designed to be played this way. It has been built to be lightweight and compatible with other major mods, and can be easily removed if players decide it isn't for them. GingasVR, whose YouTube channel also features VR mods for games including Palworld and Skyrim, has received an enthusiastic response from the Stardew Valley community, with commenters expressing amazement at how the transformation was achieved.
