‘You say genocide, I say war’: Boy George releases pro-Israel song, We Will Dance Again

The Guardian · 1 day ago

Boy George has released a new song, We Will Dance Again, in which the Culture Club singer voices support for Israel's military response to the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack. The pop-reggae track, shared on X and Instagram with its Hebrew title, includes lyrics such as "I stand with the Jews" and references the Nova music festival massacre, framing the ensuing conflict as war rather than genocide. It marks a notable hardening of his position, having previously said he held no strong opinion on Israel.

The song's chorus borrows its title from a phrase Israelis have used since the Hamas attack to express hope and solidarity, also used as the title of a documentary about the festival attack. Boy George cites the 344 civilians and 34 security personnel killed and 44 taken hostage at Nova, while the article notes the Palestinian death toll since the war began has exceeded 73,000. He also criticises musicians who have backed Palestine, such as Stormzy, Damon Albarn, Clairo and Brian Eno, and has recently spoken out in support of Jewish communities, including after a knife attack in Golders Green in April.
