Adam Scott's selection of *Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom* stands out as particularly unexpected, given the film's infamous chilled-monkey-brains scene, while other celebrities offered equally left-field picks that Karger says reveal personal connection matters more than critical acclaim.

Among the picks featured: Matthew Broderick chose *Dog Day Afternoon*, Sarah Jessica Parker went with *The Way We Were*, Scarlett Johansson selected *Easter Parade*, and Andy Cohen named *Almost Famous*. Karger says Laura Linney's choice of the profane 1970s ice-hockey film *Slap Shot* also caught him off guard, while he was expecting something like *A Woman Under the Influence*. Karger's own pick, *Children of a Lesser God*, follows the same book's premise that it's about emotional resonance rather than objective quality; the follow-up to his previous book, *50 Oscar Nights*, appeared in the 2 September issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
