Nathan Hearne, a 21-year-old man, was struck and killed by a rubbish truck outside a restaurant in Mount Druitt, western Sydney, in the early hours of Thursday morning. He is being remembered by family and friends as a devoted brother who donated bone marrow to help save one sibling's life, with tributes describing him as having the "biggest heart" and a warm, vibrant personality.

Mr Hearne was hit by a Cleanaway waste collection truck at around 2.20am on Luxford Road and died at the scene despite attempts to revive him. His brothers Stevie and Colton had both suffered from a rare immune disorder, Familial Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis type five, requiring bone marrow transplants; Stevie received Mr Hearne's donation last year, while Colton is currently recovering from a transplant donated by their mother. Police confirmed Mr Hearne had visited Mount Druitt Police Station twice earlier that evening, and a critical incident investigation is underway, overseen by the Professional Standards Command and the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission. The 31-year-old truck driver was uninjured and underwent mandatory testing.
