Your Steam Deck Can Now Moonlight as a PS Portal, with PS Plus Cloud Streaming

Push Square · 2 hours ago

Developers have created Asobi, a software application enabling Steam Deck and other Linux portable gaming systems to access PlayStation 5 titles through PlayStation Plus Premium's cloud streaming infrastructure. Presently limited to the cloud game catalogue rather than the full PS5 library—though expansion is in development—the tool offers handheld gamers another route to play Sony's streaming catalogue on hardware they already own.

The project's economics appear favourable to Sony's interests rather than threatening them. During beta testing, users enjoy unrestricted performance, but the planned public release will restrict free-tier access to lower visual fidelity, with full performance locked behind an additional subscription tier. Sony has minimal motive to intervene since the application drives PlayStation Plus Premium revenue and doesn't directly undercut PlayStation Portal, effectively expanding the company's subscription ecosystem among an audience already committed to portable gaming.

  • Asobi app lets Steam Deck and Linux handhelds play PS5 games via PS Plus Premium cloud streaming
  • Testing phase offers unrestricted 60fps/4K access; commercial release will cap free tier at 30fps/1080p with paid upgrade
  • Sony unlikely to block it since the app reinforces PS Plus Premium adoption rather than cannibalising PS Portal sales
