South Yorkshire Police say a group of youths was seen entering Shiregreen Working Men's Club in Sheffield seconds before a fire broke out there, and believe the blaze was started deliberately. The club, closed since 2019, is well known as the venue where the famous final scene of the 1997 hit film The Full Monty was filmed, giving the incident wider public interest beyond a routine derelict-building fire.

The fire began just before 16:45 BST on Sunday 9 August on Shiregreen Lane, prompting a response from eight fire engines and a turntable ladder, with no injuries reported. The building has fallen into disrepair since closing and was also targeted in a deliberate fire last year; in 2020 Sheffield City Council rejected a demolition plan after more than 1,000 people petitioned to save it. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information following house-to-house inquiries.
