Zach Bryan’s New Song Is a Cover by an Obscure Kentucky Songwriter

Zach Bryan has released a YouTube cover of “Kentucky Hurricane”, a song by Kentucky folk singer-songwriter Ian Noe. The release follows Bryan’s EP *Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs*, but is separate from that project; it also brings attention to a track from Noe’s recent album.

The song tells of a relationship with a sex worker that ends with the narrator in prison. Bryan keeps close to Noe’s original while playing electric guitar without percussion, with Billy Contreras on the fiddle hook and a backing choir. Noe has said the song began with its lead fiddle melody.
