Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Loses External Power Supply, Russian-Installed Management Says
The Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has lost its external electricity supply after damage led protective systems to disconnect its Ferosplavna power line. The interruption matters because the plant needs power to run equipment that supports safe operation, although its Russian-installed management said backup generators were supplying those systems.
The management said staff were monitoring the plant and that radiation levels on site and in the surrounding surveillance zone were normal. Separately, Ukrainian energy company DTEK said a Russian overnight attack damaged energy facilities in Dnipropetrovsk region, leaving more than 600,000 people without electricity; Russia said it had targeted infrastructure connected to Ukraine’s military.
In short
- Zaporizhzhia plant lost its external power line after damage.
