zayALLCAPS has discussed the making of his new album, My Uncle Told Me Some Real Ass Sh*t on the Phone Yesterday, describing it as his most ambitious and emotionally driven work to date. The Los Angeles-based artist says the record represents a culmination of years spent developing his abilities as a producer and vocalist, while moving away from the brighter tone of some recent releases.

Made over several years, the album is zayALLCAPS’s fourth in four years and blends romance and self-discovery with sample glitches and echoing synths. He characterises it as deliberately varied and resistant to rigid structure, with tracks such as the 1990s-influenced R&B song “CHANGEZ” and the shifting, experimental “Digital Jungle” highlighting his approach.
