Disney has confirmed that “Zootopia 3” is in development, extending the animated franchise after the record-breaking performance of “Zootopia 2”. The decision underlines Disney’s continued reliance on established family-film series with strong global box-office appeal.
Released in 2025, “Zootopia 2” earned $1.8 billion worldwide, becoming Disney’s highest-grossing animated film and achieving the largest global animated-film opening. The announcement came at Disney’s D23 event, where Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan confirmed the return of Judy Hopps and Gary De’Snake; the original 2016 film also exceeded $1 billion globally and spawned the Disney+ series “Zootopia+”.
