Mark Zuckerberg published a lengthy essay setting out his vision for artificial intelligence, coinciding with Meta's release of a new open-source AI model, Muse Glimmer, aimed at rivalling products from Anthropic and OpenAI. The essay, titled "The Future is for Everyone", positions Meta against those rivals by arguing for free, open-weight AI models and minimal government regulation, at a time when Silicon Valley is locked in debate over how AI should be overseen and controlled.

Running to more than 6,000 words, the piece uses the term "superintelligence" 60 times and touches on datacentres, cybersecurity, bioweapons, job losses and surveillance. Zuckerberg argues power over AI should not rest with a small group of experts or companies, and calls for users to be able to set their own AI's "values" rather than have them dictated by corporate guardrails. He also pledged to accelerate datacentre construction through a new investment fund, despite growing public and political opposition to such projects in the US.
