ZZ Top Drummer Frank Beard Battling Serious Health Issues: Report

Consequence · 2 hours ago

ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard is dealing with significant medical problems, forcing the legendary rock band to withdraw from scheduled performances. The group cancelled an August 5 show at the Hollywood Bowl, attributing the decision to unexpected circumstances that became increasingly difficult to manage.

Michael Monahan has taken over drumming duties for the remainder of the tour, which runs through October. This marks the second time in recent years that Beard has stepped away due to health issues, having previously sat out performances in 2025 while recovering from lower extremity injuries. The current touring lineup features Billy Gibbons as the only surviving member from the band's classic period, following longtime bassist Dusty Hill's death in 2021.
