Spain's national football team are returning home to a hero's welcome in Madrid after beating Argentina in the World Cup 2026 final, securing the country's second-ever World Cup title. The squad is due to land in the Spanish capital at around 2pm local time, where they will be received at the Royal Palace and the Prime Minister's residence before an open-top bus parade through the city, while celebrations have also broken out across Spain, including in Seville and the players' home towns.

Celebrations were marred by tragedy in Ciudad Rodrigo, a small walled city in Salamanca province, where a 13-year-old died and two others were injured after part of a fountain collapsed on revellers shortly after midnight on Monday. Elsewhere, Spanish midfielders Gavi and Fabián Ruiz are set to be honoured by their hometown, Los Palacios y Villafranca, with sports centres named after them and gifts of their weight in tomatoes, while manager Luis de la Fuente has spoken publicly about the victory.
