Cast changes have been announced ahead of the second season of ABC's Scrubs revival, which is technically the eleventh season of the long-running medical comedy overall. The original series followed a group of doctors and nurses at the fictional Sacred Heart hospital, and the revival brings back several of its original stars, now in senior roles mentoring a younger generation of medics.

The revival centres on original leads Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, reprising their characters J.D., Turk and Elliot, with other original cast members returning in supporting or guest capacities. Its first season also introduced new characters and actors to carry the show forward, including Ava Bunn as Dr Sam Tosh, alongside Nurse Pippa Raymond and Dr Kevin Park, played by X Mayo and Joel Kim Booster.

The revival matters within the industry because it has proved a solid performer in ABC's schedule, placing among the more highly watched broadcast shows of the current US television season. It is overseen by original Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, working alongside the show's veteran stars as executive producers and a new showrunner, with 20th Television producing.
