Neil Young's ongoing tribute series Heart Of Gold has been confirmed as a three-part project, with two further volumes, Vol. 2 – Out Of The Blue and Vol. 3 – Into The Black, set for release this autumn following last year's debut instalment. The expansion underlines the breadth of Young's influence, drawing contributions from artists spanning several generations and genres, and continues the series' practice of directing all proceeds to Young's Bridge School charity.
The two new compilations bring together more than 20 acts, including MJ Lenderman, Kurt Vile, Ben Gibbard, My Morning Jacket, Lucinda Williams, Los Lobos and Modest Mouse, each reinterpreting a track from Young's catalogue. Two songs have already been released ahead of the full albums: King Princess's version of "Helpless", recorded as a stripped-back duo take with Brad Oberhofer, and Draco Rosa's sombre rendition of "After The Gold Rush". Full tracklists for both volumes have been published, confirming the final line-up and closing out the announcement.

Neil Young has spent decades writing songs that other musicians return to again and again, and the Heart Of Gold series exists to showcase that. It began with a first volume last year, in which various artists recorded their own versions of his songs, with proceeds going to charity rather than being a standard tribute album for its own sake.
Two more volumes are now on the way this November, bringing together a mix of newer and more established musicians from different genres to put their own stamp on Young's back catalogue. The money raised goes to the Bridge School, a charity Young co-founded that supports children with disabilities through music-based education programmes.
The project matters both as a marker of how far Young's songwriting has reached across generations of artists, and as an ongoing fundraising effort for a cause with which he has been personally involved for many years.
