He explained that the strain affects him both physically and aurally, with his ears ringing with a high-pitched squeal long after he comes off stage, and said drumming for a heavy rock band is akin to an intense workout rather than simply sitting and playing.

Lee revealed he once clipped a pedometer to his shoe to measure his exertion and found he covered 13.3 miles during a single show, which he says explains why he has stayed the same weight since high school despite not dieting. He also disclosed he needed hand surgery for Dupuytren's contracture, a condition that caused nerves in his hand to contract and pull his fingers into a fixed position, though he said it's the only major physical issue he's faced in his career. Lee made similar comments last month on the Joe Rogan Experience, where he described drummers as "the heartbeat" of a band who bear responsibility for the crowd's energy.
