New South Wales Police have suspended Cristian Volpato’s international driving licence for six months as inquiries continue into an alleged positive roadside cocaine test following two speeding stops in Sydney. The case concerns a 22-year-old Australia midfielder who recently featured at the World Cup, though the alleged drug result remains subject to further analysis.

Police said Volpato was first stopped at 11:05pm on Thursday while travelling between 86 and 94km/h in a 60km/h zone, with a breath test returning negative. About two hours later, he was allegedly driving at 109km/h in the same zone and returned a positive cocaine result; a secondary oral-fluid sample was taken, and he received a speeding infringement notice. Football Australia and Sassuolo, his Italian club, have been approached for comment.
