New details have emerged from Oliver Tree's Santa Cruz memorial, including remarks from his parents and further comments from his estate's foundation. His parents told the crowd that "Oliver would say trust yourself, get off the couch, produce art," adding that "he was a doer," while it was confirmed that all proceeds from Saturday's event went to Dr. Oliver Tree's Extremely Epic Grant for Baby Geniuses, a foundation set up under his will to redirect his wealth to emerging artists rather than his family, a wish he had voiced in an April interview on the Zach Sang Show.

The "Celebration of Life" was held on 25 July at Santa Cruz's Quarry Amphitheater, six weeks after Tree died in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro aged 32, and featured three mannequins dressed in his trademark windbreakers, sunglasses, cowboy hats and bowl haircut laid out in coffins. Diplo and close friend Logan Paul both spoke, with Paul calling him "a generational artist whose legacy and music will last forever." Born Oliver Tree Nickell, he built a career spanning music, film and viral internet spectacle through absurdist alter egos, releasing four Atlantic Records albums including 2020's Ugly Is Beautiful, which reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200, and the 2022 Robin Schulz collaboration "Miss You," which earned a 2024 BRIT Award nomination.
