‘Chrysalis’ Lands Vietnam Theatrical Deal With CJ CGV, Sets September Release (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 5 hours ago

"Chrysalis," a US-Vietnam co-production, has secured a nationwide theatrical release in Vietnam through CJ CGV Vietnam, the country's leading multiplex operator, with the film opening on 11 September. The deal is a significant milestone for the film, which draws on the childhood memories of executive producer Sir Daniel K. Winn and is set in Vietnam, giving it particular resonance with local audiences ahead of its wider international rollout.

In Vietnam the film will be released under the local title "Mãi Nợ Một Lời Tạm Biệt" ("The Farewell I Never Gave"), while retaining "Chrysalis" internationally. Directed by J. Robert Schulz and produced by WS Productions, it stars veteran actress Kieu Chinh alongside Winn, who appears in present-day scenes. The film previously screened at the 2026 Cannes Film Market and competed at the Danang Asian Film Festival, where Kieu Chinh received a Screen Excellence Merit Award; further engagements are planned in Beverly Hills in October and worldwide in November.
