With Just Hours to Go Until Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Ryan Reynolds Says His New Monochrome Deadpool Suit is Actually Colored ‘Jean Grey’

IGN · 6 hours ago

Ryan Reynolds has fuelled speculation ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day by joking that his new monochrome Deadpool suit, unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, is coloured "Jean Grey" — a cheeky nod to the X-Men character many fans believe Sadie Sink is secretly playing in the new film. The gag matters because it feeds into weeks of intense fan speculation over the true identity of Sink's mystery Marvel role, which Marvel has kept deliberately hidden and which is due to be revealed when the film opens.

There is no actual Pantone shade called "Jean Grey" (IGN says it checked), and the suit's fictional colour code, 9-1963, references September 1963, when the original X-Men comic was first published. Sink herself has called the secrecy "torture," while director Destin Daniel Cretton insists there's a good reason for the surprise, and Tom Holland has claimed Jean Grey is "not in this movie" — leaving open whether Reynolds is teasing the truth or simply trolling fans. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in cinemas on 31 July 2026, with previews starting within 24 hours and early reviews reportedly very positive; separately, a filmed cameo from Rosario Dawson as Clare Temple has been cut, and an eight-second scene will be censored for release in India.
