Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.5 Brawler Reportedly in Development From CD Projekt and Shantae Studio WayForward

IGN · 5 hours ago

A report from MP1st claims CD Projekt and WayForward, the studio behind Shantae, are developing a 2.5D brawler set in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners universe, codenamed "Gemini." The project reportedly draws on Edgerunners' popularity as CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 anime spin-off, though it remains in early research and design, meaning any release is likely far off, and CD Projekt declined to comment when approached by IGN.

Details attributed to a former WayForward employee describe Gemini as a "rollback-driven" brawler in the vein of the studio's River City Girls series, and say it has been in development since 2025. Its current status is uncertain, as WayForward reportedly cancelled a separate unannounced game based on an external franchise last year after losing funding, leading to layoffs in September, though it's unclear if that project was Gemini. Regardless, Edgerunners' second season is confirmed for Netflix this autumn, while the video game sequel Cyberpunk 2 remains in early development with around 163 staff as of April and is not expected before 2030.
