5 Years Later, Cyberpunk Shooter The Ascent Confirms Major PS5 Update as Dev Teases Sequel
Developer Neon Giant is marking the fifth anniversary of cyberpunk twin-stick shooter The Ascent by confirming a major update for the PS5 version, alongside teasing future expansion of the franchise. The Ascent first launched on Xbox and PC in 2021 before arriving on PS5 about a year later, and has earned praise for its atmospheric world and gritty tone. The news gives existing fans reason to return and offers newcomers a fresh incentive to try the game, while also signalling the Swedish studio's continued commitment to the property.
The upcoming update, pencilled in for November 2026, is expected to improve reliability and quality of life for both solo and co-op players, including fixes to co-op teleportation, the encounter system, save-game stability and progression tracking. Neon Giant also confirmed plans to expand The Ascent further, teasing "new platforms, genres, and future sequels" without providing specifics. The studio is separately developing No Law, an open-world cyberpunk action RPG that has reportedly shown promise so far.
