Sir Clive Lloyd led tributes to Sir Garfield Sobers at the West Indies cricketing legend's state funeral in Barbados, describing him as "the greatest all-round cricketer the world has ever known". Sobers, who died on 17 July aged 89, was honoured at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, the ground that houses a pavilion named in his memory, with the ceremony reflecting his enduring status as one of the sport's most influential figures.

The service was held at Kensington Oval following a procession from Barbados' Parliament Buildings, with Sobers' coffin carried on a gun carriage and passed through a guard of honour of raised cricket bats. Attendees included fellow West Indies greats Brian Lara and Desmond Haynes, Barbados president Jeffrey Bostic, prime minister Mia Mottley, singer Rihanna, and members of the current West Indies squad. Sobers played 93 Tests between 1954 and 1974, scoring 8,032 runs and taking 235 wickets, and held the world record Test score of 365 not out for 36 years; a message from King Charles was also read out during the service, and Sobers will be laid to rest at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens.
