Ugandan boxer Aziz Abdul, the grandson of former dictator Idi Amin, was disqualified from his super-heavyweight bout at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after appearing to headbutt English opponent Damar Thomas. The incident, which occurred in the third round after the pair had grappled, ended Uganda's hopes of a first Commonwealth boxing medal since 1990, as Abdul had been trailing on all judges' scorecards having already received warnings in the previous two rounds.

Abdul, 25, disputed the decision, insisting the head movement was unintentional and claiming he had been penalised because he is "a black African" while his opponent was fighting on home soil. He also alleged that England's boxers commit fouls that go unpunished. Thomas, now guaranteed at least a bronze medal, said it was not how he wanted to win but that he would focus on his next fight. Before the bout, Abdul had told the BBC he wanted to become the new "King of Scotland", referencing the title Amin, who led a brutal regime blamed for around half a million deaths, gave himself in 1976 after developing a fascination with Scotland during his military service there.
