‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Aims to Make Box Office History as It Targets High-Flying Opening
Sony Pictures is projecting a huge domestic opening for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", with the Tom Holland and Zendaya-led superhero film set to post the biggest box office debut of 2026 so far. Boosted by strong reviews and minimal major competition, the film looks set to significantly outpace this year's previous top opener, Disney's "Toy Story 5", and could rank among the highest-grossing opening weekends in cinema history.
The studio is forecasting a domestic opening of $195 million from 4,300 North American theatres, which would place it in the all-time top 10 and mark the first title to pass $200 million domestically since "Deadpool & Wolverine" in 2024. Globally, Sony expects a $465 million debut including $270 million overseas, making it the studio's second-best Spider-Man launch behind 2021's "No Way Home". Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and also starring Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo, the film holds a strong 91 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and already accounts for 49 percent of this weekend's US showtimes.
