Raducanu to miss US Open to continue recovery

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Emma Raducanu will miss the US Open as she continues to recover from a stress fracture in her right lower leg, an injury that also forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon. The decision follows fresh consultations with her medical team and means the 2021 champion will not defend her return to Flushing Meadows this year, a tournament she had only recently begun preparing for after coming out of a protective boot.

The past 12 months have been disrupted for the 23-year-old, who dealt with a foot injury hampering pre-season training and then a two-and-a-half-month absence due to a post-viral illness that began in early February. She returned late in the clay-court season after rehiring coach Andrew Richardson, and enjoyed a career-best run to the final at Queen's Club in June, but has not played since and now faces an extended lay-off ahead of the US Open, which starts on 23 August.
