Turkish club Trabzonspor are set to confirm the signing of Mohamed Salah, with the Egypt captain mobbed by hundreds of fans as he arrived at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport wearing the club's colours. The move ends the 34-year-old's nine-year spell at Liverpool, where he scored 257 goals, and follows a reported breakdown in talks with fellow Turkish side Besiktas over finances. As a free agent, Salah's arrival represents a major coup for Trabzonspor, who will be able to direct more of their budget towards his wages.

Salah will play European football next season after Trabzonspor finished third in the Super Lig, though they face Europa League play-offs to avoid dropping into the Conference League. Nicknamed the Black Sea Storm, the club last won the league in 2022 and have lifted seven titles overall. At Liverpool, Salah won two Premier League titles and the Champions League among other honours, claimed four Golden Boots and three PFA Player of the Year awards, but saw his playing time reduced last season following a reported fallout with head coach Arne Slot.
