Vogue just gave another nod of approval to the tech world

TechCrunch · 2 weeks ago

Vogue has announced that its travelling extravaganza Vogue World will come to San Francisco next year, a move widely read as another sign that tech billionaires have become influential figures in fashion. Editor Anna Wintour framed the choice as a celebration of San Francisco's creativity and history of "standing up for values", but the decision follows a year in which she has drawn increasingly close to Silicon Valley's most powerful figures, culminating in a Met Gala sponsored by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez and attended by the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Sergey Brin.

Vogue World has previously been staged in fashion capitals New York, London, Paris and, this year, Milan, making San Francisco an unconventional addition given the city's association with tech-casual dressing rather than high fashion. Companies including OpenAI, Meta and Snap reportedly paid $350,000 for tables at this year's Met Gala, while Wintour previously put Sánchez on Vogue's cover following her wedding to Bezos. The article also notes a broader shift among tech leaders towards more fashionable public images, citing Zuckerberg's front-row appearance at a Prada show and new merchandise collaborations from firms such as OpenAI and Palantir.
