Their set combined relentless intensity with a noticeably playful, good-humoured atmosphere, suggesting a more relaxed and cohesive band than the threatening force they were two decades ago.

Opening with “Ruin” amid sparks, the band followed with crowd favourites including “Laid To Rest” and “Now You’ve Got Something To Die For”, prompting sustained movement from an already energised audience. It was Lamb Of God’s third time headlining Bloodstock, matching Judas Priest and Nightwish, after a day featuring Life Of Agony, Fit For An Autopsy, Biohazard, Municipal Waste and Sepultura’s final UK show; frontman Randy Blythe matched the crowd’s energy with an especially animated performance.
