Catalans Dragons winger Tommy Makinson has announced he will retire at the end of the 2026 season, bringing an end to a decorated rugby league career. The 34-year-old former England international spent 2011 to 2024 at St Helens, where he won five Grand Finals and a Challenge Cup, before moving to the French club in 2025.

Catalans' play-off hopes were all but ended by a 42-20 defeat at Huddersfield Giants on Saturday, meaning Makinson's final game will come against his hometown club Wigan Warriors on Friday, 11 September. Since joining Catalans he has scored 20 tries in 37 appearances. In a social media statement, Makinson said rugby league had been "incredibly kind" to him and that he felt "nothing but pride and gratitude" looking back on a career that saw him represent top clubs in England and France as well as his country.
