Just Like He Never Left Sheffield Wednesday – Vital Football

Sheffield Wednesday began the season with a 1–0 EFL Cup win over Bolton Wanderers, with Barry Bannan immediately reasserting his influence after returning to the side. The article argues that his creativity, experience and leadership will remain important as Wednesday seek to establish themselves in League One.

Bannan assisted Jamal Lowe’s winning goal and completed 30 of 35 passes, an 86% success rate, including all 11 attempted in his own half; he received a 7.6 SofaScore rating. New arrivals Callum Slattery and Louie Barry are expected to reduce the burden on the midfielder, while Bannan could also captain the side when Liam Palmer is absent.
