NovelKeys has released a preassembled version of its popular Classic-TKL keyboard kit, called the Underscore Edition, making the retro-styled mechanical keyboard accessible to buyers who don't want to build one themselves. Previously available only as a build-it-yourself kit, the ready-to-use model is priced lower than sourcing equivalent components separately, broadening the keyboard's appeal beyond hobbyists to casual users and professionals who know what they want but prefer not to assemble it.

The $189 wired, tenkeyless keyboard features a gasket-mounted, injection-moulded plastic case with a design reminiscent of the Realforce 86U, along with hot-swap MX switches, full RGB backlighting and a silicone base mat for sound dampening. It is fully programmable via the Via web app and comes in three colourways—clay, boulder and lichen—though it offers only one keycap and switch option and lacks wireless connectivity. NovelKeys owner Michael Sickler said the edition targets both keyboard enthusiasts wanting something to recommend to friends and professionals familiar with the hobby who don't want a DIY project.
