DC Studios reportedly cancels Waller and Paradise Lost series

DC Studios has reportedly cancelled the planned Waller and Paradise Lost television series, further reducing the original TV slate announced by James Gunn and Peter Safran in 2023. If confirmed, the decisions leave three of the five initially announced series no longer proceeding and underline the studio’s continuing effort to define its new DC Universe amid uneven commercial and critical results.
Waller was to have brought Viola Davis back as Amanda Waller, while Paradise Lost was planned as a Themyscira-based drama about the island’s origins and political intrigue. Booster Gold remains uncertain rather than definitively cancelled: writer David Jenkins has left, but DC Studios is reportedly seeking a new creative team; upcoming DCU projects include Lanterns, Clayface and 2027’s Man of Tomorrow.

DC Studios is the film and television division of Warner Bros. Discovery that makes programmes based on DC Comics characters, including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. In 2023, its co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced a new, connected run of films and series known as the DC Universe, intended to give the company’s screen projects a clearer shared direction.
Amanda Waller is a senior US government official in DC stories who often controls the Suicide Squad, a team of imprisoned villains sent on dangerous missions. Viola Davis has played the character in several previous films and series, while Themyscira is the hidden island home of Wonder Woman and the Amazons.
The planned programmes were part of an effort to link television stories with major cinema releases. Changes to the line-up can affect which characters are introduced, how storylines connect and how quickly the wider DC Universe develops.
